For so many of us, the winter months can turn us into somewhat of a couch potato and before we know it, we have put on a few pounds and the only workout we have done has been trying to find the best new Netflix show to binge on. If you have found yourself in this situation, or even if it has been many years since you may have hit the gym, it is time to forgive yourself and move on.

For example, launching into a boot camp gyms class, drastically changing your diet and beginning a detox all on the first day will just be a shock to your system. Begin with a few new behavioural modifications, such as the commitment to exercising 15 minutes per day and gradually add other changes like eating healthier.
There are plenty of small opportunities each day that you can take advantage of to be more active. Parking further from the grocery store entrance, taking the stairs instead of the elevator or squeezing in an extra walk with the family dog are all simple ways to add more physical movement to your day.
Plan Your Day
With our hectic lives, it can be easy to get carried away with our daily tasks and feel as though we do not have the time to workout. This can be avoided by planning your day and schedule ahead of time. If you prefer a morning workout, have your clothes already laid out the night before and instead of sitting at home drinking a coffee, purchase a to-go mug to drink your java after your workout on your way into the office. For those that would rather be active on their lunch hour, pack a lunch to take to work so you can spend the majority of your break on a brisk walk and eat lunch once you return without having to waste time standing in line at a food court or cafeteria.
Invest in Home Gym Equipment
A few small and inexpensive home gym equipment items can make a workout out at home easy and convenient. Resistance bands, exercise balls, and jump ropes can all easily be used during the commercial breaks of your favourite evening tv show. If you enjoy a challenging cardio workout and would rather skip the hassle and expense of a gym membership, investing in a treadmill or elliptical is the perfect solution.
