Design Tips for Your Home Gym
If you’re thinking about investing in home gym equipment, the most important first step you can take is to have a clear design plan before you start buying.
Below you’ll find out more about the design features that make an ideal home gym.
Tip #1: Choose a Spacious Room
If possible, plan to set up your home gym in a large room. If you know you don’t have much space, just remember that even a smaller area, such as a 10 by 10 room, can be a good space if you don’t overcrowd it with equipment. Clutter is known to de-motivate people, so avoid cluttered shelves and too much furniture.
Ideally, pick a room with big windows that lets in a lot of light as natural light can stimulate your mood and make you more energized and motivated for your workout.
Tip #2: Use White Paint
A space with a clean, clear atmosphere will make you want to be there. Wash down the walls and put on a coat of bright white paint. Even if your impulse is to paint your home gym a warm color, don’t: warm-toned spaces are too relaxing and can actually make you tired. A white space will energize you.
Tip #3: Select the Right Lighting
Although track lighting isn’t the most appealing look, it does offer a lot of flexibility because it’s easy to move and reposition. Using LED light bulbs will help you save energy and won’t add too much heat to the room. 2700-3000 watt bulbs will provide sufficient light.
Tip #4: Put in a Full-Length Mirror
Not only can mirrors keep you motivated as you watch your body transform, but they are also a great way to reduce your risk of injuries. Watching yourself while you perform exercises can help you notice and correct bad posture and form before you hurt yourself. Choose a mirror that is big enough for you to see your whole body. Make sure to mount it straight on the wall rather than leaning it against the wall so you get a realistic view of what you look like.
Tip #5: Crank up the Tunes
While you may think it’s important to invest in a high-end sound system, a portable sound system will do just as good a job of keeping you motivated and transforming your workouts. A small, two-pound, 12-inch portable system will sound great and make you excited to get started on your workout.
